Altabanking Interview KSL Radio Transcript: Client Highlight – Casper’s Ice Cream

Segment title: Growing the National Presence of Casper’s Ice Cream

GRANT: Welcome to Altabanking. Weekly business talk geared toward elevating your financial future. Paul Merrill is president at Casper’s Ice Cream in Richmond. Paul, I understand Casper’s Ice Cream has a special history as a growing family business, tell us how you got started and how Casper’s has changed over the years.

PAUL:  My grandfather Casper Merrill started Casper’s Ice Cream in 1925, with his first product being a nut sundae on a stick. After making the first nut sundaes on the family farm in the 1940’s, he outgrew that space and built a plant in Logan, that operated until 1979 when the business moved due to growth to a new plant that Derwin and Richard Merrill, Casper’s sons built. As we filled that plant to capacity by 2007, our team began planning a major expansion into the current new facility we have now, which has allowed us to expand our sandwich and stick lines, as well as expanding the FatBoy brand into freeze tubes, cones, and bulk ice cream.

GRANT: Obviously, you’ve adapted to shopping patterns that have changed over the years, so how have you continued to grow your national presence?

PAUL: Well, the biggest reason we’ve been able to grow our national distribution and presence, is due in large part to building our new factory, which is given us capacity that we control to provide growth to our customers as they grow. Also, we are successful in large part due to the high-quality products that we continue to produce for our consumer year after year. We are actively partnering with companies that are doing grocery home delivery, as well as building our social media marketing to communicate with our customers. As we have navigated all these changes, Altabank has been a great partner.

GRANT: Paul, thank you very much for your time, great story. This has been Altabanking. Brought you by Altabank. Member FDIC.
