Altabank Partners with USU Athletics to Support the Warming Center

Logan, Utah – March 17, 2025 – Altabank, in collaboration with Utah State University (USU) Athletics and The Hurd student association, successfully concluded the "Warming Cache Valley" goods drive, collecting essential items for the William A. Burnard (W.A.B.) Warming Center. This initiative underscores Altabank's commitment to support the community and highlights the collective effort to provide help for individuals and families facing homelessness during the harsh winter months. Altabank also presented the WAB Warming Center with a $5,000 check to purchase additional items needed to support guests of the Center.

 

Goods Collected During the Drive

The community's generous contributions resulted in the collection of numerous essential items, including:

  • Paper towels
  • Paper bowls
  • Plastic forks and spoons
  • Flavored shelf-stable milk
  • Pull-tab, single-serve microwaveable meals and soups
  • Shelf-stable beef jerky & cheese
  • Peanut butter crackers
  • Individual cereal boxes
  • Shower passes to Logan Recreation Center
  • Small gift cards to local restaurants, gas stations, or grocery stores
  • New men’s socks

These items are crucial in providing comfort to those seeking refuge at the W.A.B. Warming Center during the winter season.

 

Involvement of USU Athletics and The Hurd

USU Athletics and The Hurd played a pivotal role in promoting and supporting the goods drive. Collection bins were placed at Altabank branches throughout Cache Valley and at USU Men's and Women’s Basketball games, facilitating convenient drop-off points for donors. This partnership not only amplified the reach of the drive but also fostered a spirit of unity and service within the community.

The William A. Burnard Warming Center is dedicated to strengthening the community by providing safety, warmth, and care to unhoused individuals and families on the coldest nights of the year in Cache Valley. The center offers temporary overnight refuge, access to water, snacks, warm clothing, and information about community programs and resources. By ensuring that no one spends a single night unsheltered and alone during winter months, the W.A.B. Warming Center embodies the community's recognition of the inherent dignity and worth of every individual.
